Flanked by historical SplashMaps
The Royal Geographical Society buzzed with excitement as renowned explorer John Blashford-Snell celebrated the 50th anniversary of his legendary Zaire expedition. Flanked by historical maps meticulously researched and printed by SplashMaps, John captivated the audience with his tales of bravery, discovery, and quintessential British pluck. His anecdotes had the crowd both laughing and marveling at the challenges of his daring adventures.
Mongolia SplashMaps
Prior to the evening, John premiered a video documenting his 2023 expedition to Mongolia, undertaken with the Scientific Exploration Society (SES).
The expedition, supported by SplashMaps, combined scientific research, archaeological discovery, and humanitarian aid. SplashMaps played a vital role, aiding navigation across Mongolia’s harsh terrain and helping locate new archaeological sites while ensuring crucial medical care reached remote communities.
Maps that can’t rot!
John reflected on his eight years of using SplashMaps during expeditions, praising their durability and practicality in extreme conditions. He quipped, “These maps, you see, simply cannot rot!”—a fitting tribute to SplashMaps’ washable, weatherproof, and adventure-proof design.
Partnership between SplashMaps and the Scientific Exploration Society
The evening also highlighted the enduring partnership between SplashMaps and the SES. SplashMaps founder David Overton met with expedition members to plan next year’s mission: monitoring the elusive snow leopard in remote mountain ranges. These custom fabric maps will once again prove essential in supporting scientific discovery and conservation efforts.
SplashMaps is honoured to be part of these inspiring expeditions, where history, science, and exploration come together. Here’s to more adventures ahead!
