National Walking Month

SplashMaps‘ May-time celebrations of National Walking Month include another stint on the Telly!

TrekkitTV CrewAs we’re getting more fans from across the Atlantic an intrepid crew of Canadians has been attracted to our fabric ways when planning their trip to conquer Ben Nevis!  It’s our highest mountain so they’ll need the nations best map.  Time for that combination of Ordnance Survey grandure and SplashMaps’ practical design.

Ryan from the Trekkit TV team told us “The SplashMaps products looks great!”.  From his films you can see he’s a big fan of using maps when hiking or climbing (albeit paper maps so far).  “I prefer seeing the bigger picture.  The idea of a flexible weatherproof map sounds even better.”

Our Harvey Map Neck Warmers include Ben Nevis and the Cairngorms as well as Cycle trails in Perthshire and Yorkshire

For the trip we had no shortage of options!

  1. The Harvey Maps West Highland Way would give a longer challenge and some amazingly useful detail despite the smaller scale
  2. The Ben Nevis Neck Warmer from Harvey Maps – Again superb detail at 1:40 000 and snug too for the changeable conditions
  3. But he went for option 3:  a Personalised SplashMap of Ben Nevis.  This gives him all options on the mountain at a fine detail and in a traditional OS 1:25k format and with all the benefits of a weatherproof fabric.

Nigel Williams from Glenmore Lodge is another SplashMaps fan

We introduced the team to friends at Glenmore lodge who I’m sure were a great influence on their plans.  “We will be starting at the NorthFace parking area, then hiking to the CIC Hut before ascending the mountain by the Ledge Route on the North Face (along the Carn Dearg Buttress).” So they are not skimping!  The route is a challenge and a good map essential for picking the right trail.  “The trip down the mountain will then be via the Carn Mor Dearg Arete and then along the north ridge of Carn Mor Dearg back to the NorthFace Parking lot” says Ryan who’s clearly meticulous in his planning.

The SplashMap will feature prominently in the climb as part of the Trekkit TV show that airs on the Bell Aliant TV1 in Canada.
