A Dragon’s Den Grilling Plus Chance Meeting with Lush Founder, Inspires a Unique Range of New Eco Fabric Maps
*** launched at Top Drawer, September 2017! ***
Following a roasting from the Dragons (who didn’t ‘get’ the idea of maps on fabric) and a chance meeting on a train, which sparked an on-going collaboration with Lush (who did ‘get’ it!), maps as gifts company, SplashMaps®, insisted their latest fabric maps be made from 100% recycled plastic bottles.
New Eco Fabric Maps
Creating map knot-wraps for ethical cosmetics company Lush’s stores throughout the world has inspired the award-winning¹ fabric map company to launch its own ethical SplashTex™ range at the Top Drawer gift show. Discarded bottles become fine, soft polyester which allows sharp printed detail on the finished map products, and the whole process takes place as locally as possible (uniquely, entirely within Europe).
David Overton, MD of SplashMaps, comments, “I hope that by providing gift buyers with more ethical products they’ll not only make the most of the outdoors, but also enjoy helping to protect the environment too.”
“Our launch at Top Drawer showcases how SplashMaps places amazing new ideas on the market that inspire people to get more from the outdoors,” says David Overton, MD of SplashMaps. “In providing gift buyers with more ethical products we help more people toward fulfilling experiences and a greater joy in sustaining our environment.”
Truly global appeal for ethical products
Fabric maps are the most reliable, practical form of map; no need for batteries, signal or folding and they’re happy being dropped! They’re scrunchable (to stuff into pockets, tie around necks etc.), and so weatherproof that Southampton Sailing Week commissioned the world’s first sea-proof event maps from SplashMaps.
You can centre them anywhere worldwide(!), choose a scale to suit your activity and customise them with your own titles, logos etc. So, they’re popular for sporting or other events, weddings, corporate gifts and more.

Recycled European fabric map is a lush opportunity the Dragons missed
Overton, also known as the “affable entrepreneur” (after his appearance on BBC Dragons’ Den), adds, “It’s a phenomenal time for us. Orders are flying in and people are getting so creative with our maps; Lush’s knot wraps and their global map style are great examples. Top Drawer is a great opportunity to showcase our exciting new map ranges and bold new partner products with eye-catching gift packaging.”
