Our Christmas Reads Winner is Chris Barrington-Brown, MD of Cunning Running a geo-business focused on Counter Terrorism. Chris came to the Potters Heron to pick up the prize and enjoy lunch with me today.
Chris also shared his silk map collection with (Ed. I may have mentioned that SplashMaps are currently meeting an increasing demand for modern escape and evasion maps in Africa!). His grandfather worked in the very department that made these amazing life-saving maps. How appropriate that he now has the authoritative book on the history of the MI9, the department created in 1939 with the purpose of embedding a culture of “escape” within the British forces during WW2.
Chris himself has served in the military and for 26 years has been a reservist. Cunning Running‘s software is an amazing tool-set often used to anticipate terrorist vantage points for major events and military or civilian targets.
“Great Escapes (Ed. The Book he received written by Barbara Bond and published by Harper Collins) is going to help me fill in some gaps in my research into my Grandfathers secretive history and the creation of these essential escape maps”, said Chris as he received an (only slightly thumbed!) book and a SplashMap discount voucher.
It seems fitting that our Christmas Reads Winner is himself engaged in applying modern mapping skills to protect the nation!
