Trail Running magazine had our Bob Graham Round SplashMap tested by the fastest woman ever to complete the 66 mile challenge (an amazing 18 hours and 12 minutes for the +8000m ascent across 42 peaks in the Lake District).

“… it covers the whole route … rather than carrying 4 OS maps …” says Nicky Spinks. She concludes “It looks very nice and would make a great present … especially as it’s my birthday soon.”   Nicky has a full page profile in the June/ July magazine and her latest Bob Graham record report is here.

The article, by editor Claire Maxted, describes the map as “genius” and highlights our collaboration with fell running author, Steve Chilton and our partnership with Ordnance Survey to make this bespoke map. Claire herself is off in the Knoydart, following a personalised SplashMap for review in the August/ September edition 2015.

Fell Running Magazine also ran a 3 page article on navigating the challenge by Steve Chilton titled “Bob the Navigator”.  Some of the great BGR veterans are interviewed (including Nicky), featuring Jim Mann, Jonny Muir, Steve Birkinshaw.  Without exception, they all reject GPS as their principle navigation and SplashMaps benefits are lauded in the article “They are super light-weight, and can be folded or scrunched into a very small space – or indeed worn around the neck. They are waterproof but also capable of being marked up and used for carrying bearing details notes, timings etc. They can still be used to take compass  bearings on the fly…”.
